A Gentlemen’s Duel – Now With Steam-Powered Mecha!

Aaah my lady. Your grace is matched only by your boobies, err, I mean your beauty.” With an opening line such as that, you know you’re in for something special.

In this hilarious animated short from Blur Studio, a cunning war of words between two gentlemen who seek the hand of a beautiful lady, quickly erupts into an EPIC battle in giant Steampunk mecha!

Packed full of explosive action and sexual innuendo, it’s one period drama you won’t soon forget. See it below or watch it in high quality on YouTube.

That’s totally made of win, don’t you think?

The Megan Fox Boycott Boycott

Internet citizens, much like small children, tend to do the opposite of what you tell them. Late last month, Asylum wondered what a day would be like if Megan Fox media wasn’t polluting the Internet. Thus they banded together with other men-centric web sites yesterday in an Internet-wide media ban on the toe-thumbed actress.

Other sites, however, decided to boycott the boycott and embrace the Fox phenomenon with open arms and jizz in their pants; the Sun went as far as calling yesterday “Megan Fox Day”. In case you missed it (like I did), herewith is a veritable treasure chest of Megan Fox stuff.

OK, that’s it. I got bored. Honestly, humanity is running out of good, wholesome people to idolize.

Digital Camo: Custom Vinyls For Your Gadgets

Abe over at The Given Collective has started up a new venture, Digital Camo, that brings some sweet custom skins for all your precious gadgets, be it a PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, iPhone, iPod, or laptop. All the artwork is done by Abe himself on high quality, low tac vinyls that are easily applied and just as easily removed.

If you’d like a more customized skin, you can send your image to them and they’ll turn it into a one-of-a-kind creation for you.

There’s a small selection of skins available at the moment, but Abe informs me that new ones will be added on a daily basis. Prices start at R50 for an iPhone skin, R120 for a PS3 skin, and R215 for a full Xbox 360 skin.

This is one skin I’d definitely like to have on my PS3 <hint hint>. Bears are so hot right now.

Check out Digital Camo for more locally-produced skins.

Sour Includes Fans in “Hibi no Neiro” Music Video

My Internet is tragically slow today so you’ll have to excuse any factual errors in this post. That’s probably a rubbish excuse, but I’m sticking with it. :poop:

From what I gather, Sour is a Japan based alt-rock band and in the music video for Hibi no Neiro (Tone of everyday), they enlisted the help of Sour fans from around the world. Each person and scene was filmed purely via a web cam and the footage was cleverly mashed together to make this entertaining montage.

The Art of Jaco Haasbroek

Jaco Haasbroek is a South African artist who loves clean lines, minimalism, and long walks on the beach (I made that last bit up.)

Born in Pretoria, Haasbroek now lives in Cape Town and creates quirky illustrations, often with clever punch lines attached. Have a look at some of them below.

He also makes supremely cute plush toys. Tell him what you’d like and he’ll make one up for you. They’re all hand stitched, and start off at R350 for a standard toy (about 23 cm in height).

More details are available at his Haasbroek Art group on Facebook and check out his work at Flickr.

Virgile Goes a-Courting

This brings back memories of my ill-fated attempts to charm the ladies. Created by Clément Soulmagnon and Gary Levesque under the moniker Flying V, this short film tells the story of shy guy Virgile as he tries to impress the girl that he has the hots for. As he gets more desperate, the bigger his antics become. It’s quite sweet.

Check it out below or watch it in HD at Vimeo.

Sibusiso Duma and The South African Crime Spree

What the what? 24-year old Sibusiso Duma has more than a few screws loose. News24.com reports that the man who is accused of six murders knocked down two of his victims and then reversed over them!

Duma is alleged to have kidnapped a 17-year-old girl, gang-raped her and repeatedly drove over her. If that wasn’t enough, he set her on fire. The woman was found in a cemetary and taken to hospital, she has since recovered.

Here’s the run-down of Duma’s crime spree:

  • Six murders
  • Four aggravated robberies
  • Four rapes
  • Two attempted murders
  • Three kidnappings

And get this – all these crimes were allegedly between September 9th and 24th, 2007! 16 days, 19 crimes – that must be a South African record!

His trial started yesterday in the Pietermaritzburg High Court and continues today.

Anti-Smoking Ad Warns of Immiment Robot Apocalypse

We’ve seen a couple of anti-smoking ads that use shock value to get the point across, but this is the first time we’ve seen one that pokes fun at them. This particular ad starts off as any traditional PSA does but quickly takes a turn for the worse – emphysema and lung cancer will be the very least of your problems should you continue to smoke.

Don’t smoke. All of humanity is counting on you!

Le Grand Content: Life, Explained in Charts & Diagrams

Created by Austrian animator and motion graphic designer, Clemens Kogler, Le Grand Content tries to make sense of our lives and its pitfalls through the use of Venn diagrams, pie charts, and graphs.

My favourite section is the graphical representation of one’s intended career path versus one’s actual career path. The difference between the two is the reason why we drink. In that case, I should be a raging alcoholic ;-)

See the video below.

The diagrams used were inspired by Jessica Hagy’s site, Indexed.
