Thunder Busters + Epic Sumo

Like vanilla ice cream and crunchy peanut butter, here’s another great duo of mashups for you to digest. In the first clip AC/DC rock out against Venkman, Stanz, and Spengler in Thunder Busters and then sumo wrestling is made less boring through the use of Anime.

Nike Chase: Purple Hi-Tops vs. Rampaging Robots

This slick animated short was made by London Studio I Love Dust was for Nike Japan’s “Sister One” launch in the Southeast Asian market. Inspired by popular elements in anime (neon lights, upskirts, Godzilla-sized monsters, etc.), the video tells the story of a dancing-girl-turned-superhero trying to save a metropolis from rampaging robots.

What you see below is the director’s cut of Nike Chase. Enjoy.

When Anime Fansubs Go Wrong

A bowl of pain rice. One of my most fond memories of holidaying in Thailand was the less-than-perfect translations in restaurant menus. As we travelled further from Bangkok, the translation got worse (and funnier as a result). I thought of those moments when I came across this gem of awesomeness.

With its root in the early 80s, a fansub is a version of an anime program that has been subtitled by fans, for fellow fans who do not understand Japanese. Not all translators are equal, and sometimes, when the translations go wrong, the results can be very amusing to say the least.
