The A to Z of Dance

Dance is a wonderful thing. The late Martha Graham said it was the “hidden language of the soul, of the body.” If the language of dance were to have an alphabet, it might look a little something like this.

Courtesy of i-D Magazine and Diesel, the A-Z of Dance showcases Diesel’s new flexible jean pant, and attempts to educate you on the popular dance styles that you’ve seen and a bunch that you might not be familiar with. It’s a pity that “P” went to pole dancing and not to local favourite, pantsula.

Partysaurus Rex!

Try as he might, the impossibly small arms of Tyrannosaurus Rex mean that it can’t take its own profile picture, zip up a sleeping bag, or even hold hands with a She-Rex.

It’s an equally trying time for Toy Story’s plastic dinosaur Rex who wants to shed his party pooper image. In Disney Pixar’s latest animated short, Rex finds himself in a position where he can use his arms to get a (bath time) party started. It’s disco lights and dance tunes, an epic bubble bash like no other, and it’s all thanks to the king of the hot tub Partysaurus Rex.

Starlings Take Flight in Amazing Murmuration

A flock of birds. A murder of crows. A parliament of owls. The English language certainly provides descriptive terms for collections of birds. Perhaps one of the most interesting collective nouns is a murmuration. This term describes a gathering of starlings, and Vimeo user Sophie Windsor Clive was lucky enough to experience such a murmuration on the River Shannon in Ireland.

Clive recorded the amazing phenomenon where thousands of starlings are in flight, with one bird trying to copy the movement of the other. What results is a collections of wonderfully swirly, hypnotic patterns. It’s a breathtaking sight, you must see it.

What looks like a mating dance is actually a form of survival says The Telegraph. Starlings are prey for other larger birds and to avoid being the next meal, the starlings seek safety in the flock. They fight to stay away from the edge, because it’s easier predatory birds to snatch them up from there.

Knock Knock.
Who’s there?
Bob who?

Lol, that little dubstep joke is courtesy of @tsozik.

I have no idea what the name of this song is, nor do I know the name of the chap doing the most fantastical dance moves in the video. I do know that he has amazing muscle control and I also believe that he is missing a couple of bones in his body. Take a look at PUMPED UP KICKS|DUBSTEP below.

Update: The song a dubstep remix of Pumped Up Kicks by Foster the People. And the dancer is Marquese “Nonstop” Scott of the dance crew, REMOTEKONTROL.

Thought of You

Ryan Woodward, the director and animator of this piece, has magically captured the essence of style versus emotion. He portrays his characters in a surreal sense which draws the viewer deeper into the film.

Thought of You was born out of Ryan’s desires to connect several of his passions into one art piece. Figurative works, 2D animation, EFX animation, and contemporary dance. The theme revolves around an intimate relationship and it portrays this exceptionally.

“Rather than creating a narrative animated piece that communicates a well defined story, this piece allows for each individual who views it to to experience something unique and personal that touches their own sensibilities.”

You can also check out the “making of” from Ryan’s site listed below.
