We all like a good tale as old as time, and Disney has remade Beauty and the Beast as a live-action film starring Emma Watson in the titular role as Belle. Can live actors live up to the animated version? Will Belle find her true love? Can gaping plot holes with the original film be filled in with more song? Let’s find out.
Moana is Disney Animation’s latest feature film, and the 56th in a long line of Disney features. The film has a Polynesian setting this time around, a nice departure from the usual European settings that Disney is famous for. Get your floral swimming shorts and paddle and I’ll meet you down on the beach for this review.
Marvel just loves to introduce new characters to the cinematic universe, doesn’t it? To the ever-expanding roster of characters, Marvel adds Doctor Strange, the mystical Sorcerer Supreme whose job it is to protect Earth from far less physical threats than those faced by the Avengers. It’s still 2016, so that means we’re going to review either a remaster or a sequel again. Seriously, I can count on one hand the number of reviews we’ve done for totally new IP, but a new release is a new release, so we’re going to go back…to the future! Magic Kingdom for Disney Magical World 2! Not only do we get to play with Mickey and Donald and company like we did in 2014’s Disney Magical World (which we reviewed here), we also get a to enjoy a whole new bunch of Disney characters from Anna and Elsa to Lilo and Stitch to Snow White, as well as enjoy the company of some old ones from the last game. Magic wands at the ready?
Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland hit the screens back in 2010, and the film was successful and popular enough that the powers that be (i.e. Disney) deemed it worthy of making the sequel. The original film paid mostly lip service to the original Carroll, keeping the characters, mostly, but presenting a whole new plot with an older Alice, and all of it in typical crazy, topsy turvy Burton style. The new film, Alice Through the Looking Glass, pays about as much attention to the original story as the first one did, but this time Burton isn’t at the helm. Does it affect the film any? The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is growing at quite a rate, and the latest Avengers film is the eleventh movie in the series and the sequel (of sorts) to the highly successful, hugely acclaimed 2012 Avengers film. In this new story, the Avengers get to go head to head with maniacal robot Ultron. Earth needs saving. Again.
Admittedly, although I like to say I’m a big fan of Disney films and IP, I’m not an expert in the world of Tinker Bell.
